Detonator XP

Pros
I have to admit just like the Detonator UL this unit is put together well and looks cool on my desk. Once I opened it up I realized it also looks very similar to the UL model. In fact all that seems different is an added resistor and a capacitor. From what I understand it is pretty much just the quality and the timing that set this machine apart from the others. Anyways the Pros are damn easy. Does it unloop HUs? Of course it does. Luckily I have 50 or so looped cards to play with, and have been up all night getting a couple of them to pop with the HUFF code. With the freeware I and others are averaging 80% of 5B/6B cards, but with the Detonator XP I could only not get 7 out of 50 cards to live again. Oh and it's fast! Like I mean less than 30 seconds type of fast in most cases. I sat here and pumped out 45 cards in a couple hours. The software was super easy to use and it basically just calculates possible ATR strings based on the an EEPROM probe. When enough valid ATR's are found it asks you for a .BIN to clone onto the card. This is just like the freeware software. Now I should mention that some cards would not unloop with the Detonator XP but did under the latest freeware flash. Anyways, the Pro's are obvious, the Detonator XP unloops HU cards as promised, has some decent software, and comes packaged in a nice case with PS/2 power port. The cons are not so simple.

Cons
There is only one looming con to owning a Detonator XP and it is not a secret in the community by any stretch. Why do I need one of these with HU unlooping freeware on the internet. Freeware that is destined to be improved and polished for the masses. Well the simple answer is you don't. However if you are a dealer or someone who handles more than a few cards, you may want to check into one of these. I had tremendous success with the unit and it is apparent that the flash on this guy is not what we are using for free with our old HU loaders. You will also likely save some time with a Detonator XP for now. So the biggest con to owning a unit like this is the price. Dealers have responded to this by slashing prices to $199! This is a bit more fair that $799 or higher to say the least. Now for a large con to owning a Detonator XP. If you have a stack of 4B cards and are planning to fix them all with one of these you had best check out the freeware scene. These units will not unloop 4B's at this point but this is promised as an upgrade later. DssTester's don't like promises last I checked so I will not hold my breath.

Conclusion
Well it is really hard to give this unit a high score and it is certainly not the fault of the dealer who submitted this unit, who is a premium sponsor of this website and others. We all know the story on these units so it's pointless to go over it here. If it had debuted at $199 and no freeware was on the scene I would give it a 10/10. Period. However, these things are not for the casual tester with 2 cards, so I am not going to recommend everyone go out and buy one either. If your the type of guy who rices up his car, has extra money to spend on toys, buys every DVD released etc, then I would follow suit and grab one of these. The HU unlooping freeware has really screwed up some of these guys who are pushing these toys so if you’re into supporting the scene (like I am), you may also want to purchase one.

Detonator UL

Pros
Right off the top I want to say this unit will NOT repair 00 or FF cards. What it will do over a standard T6 unit is lock and unlock activation scripts on the card. Please note 3M code can not be locked down at this time but this ability is promised. The unit comes preflashed with a variant of the HU7F code floating around. They say this is exclusive code to this unit but I think it has been released to the public by now. The unit comes with Winexplorer 4.8 which needs to be unlocked with a code the company provides. Once this is done the software will be locked to that PC and cards can only be unlocked from there. Anyways I threw 5 unglitchable cards at this sucker and it glitched into all of them, including a 4B which had never been glitched into previously. Not bad. I also flashed it with the other atmel flashes and it operates great (just like a T6). The unit is built well and upon closer inspection you can tell it uses the latest surface mount technology as all hardware should these days.

Cons
I am not sure this unit is for the average tester. If you have a loader and it loads all the cards you own then there is no need to upgrade to this type of unit. If you have 2-3 cards that have ATR but will not clean (just keep glitching) then this unit can definitely be very helpful in bringing the cards back to life. If you are a small time dealer and you want to protect the bins on your activation cards, then you would want this unit as well.

Conclusion
I think these units are mainly for dealers and that is the only reason they are on the market. I would have given this unit a better score if the price was better so that is the only place it loses points. If you currently do not have a loader and price is no object I would look at this unit. If you have some cards that will not glitch I would also look at this unit. All in all it is an innovative product.

T6 Wave 2

Pros
Well this sucker handles exactly like an Elvis1 so I tried every mode: HU Loader/H Unlooper/Phoenix Programmer all of which popped cards as advertised. The unit has the familiar 6 jumpers for the tweakers out there, and moves in between modes, and flashes as it should. Now let's say you're like me and do cards on the run, like with a laptop. Here is where this unit shines over its predecessors. The PS/2 power port kicks ass. If you're using a laptop this is your loader. Upon removing the case I found the T6 Wave to be made of the same quality parts as the earlier model, and the same goes for the PCB. Oh yeah also this thing has a socketed atmel for easy repair, what more can you ask for?

Cons
I cannot really say anything bad about this loader as it worked as advertised without a hitch. If you're familiar with an Elvis1 you know what I mean. These are the loaders for the masses, and are everywhere these days.

Conclusion
The bottom line is this is a great product and as such, this loader gets our thumbs up.
